Natural Origin: The potassium salt of sorbic acid. Sorbic acid is a natural preservative that is found in the berries of the mountain ash tree

History: Sorbic acid was fist discovered in 1859 by the German chemist August Wilhelm von Hofmann, who isolated sorbic acid from the unripe berries of the rowan (Sorbus aucuparia) tree. It is found in certain berry species such as mountain ash, rowan and magnolia vine.
